I crossed out a version of myself. Not cleanly. Not all at once. But I kept going.

There was a period where I was holding everything together for everyone else and slowly disappearing inside it. Single motherhood. Heartbreak. The particular exhaustion of rebuilding a life while still being expected to perform the old one.

I was not falling apart dramatically. I was dissolving quietly, which is harder to explain and harder to stop.

That is when I understood what scent actually is. Not beauty. Not luxury. Not performance. Identity. In the moments when everything else has been stripped back.

I became obsessed. I studied fragrance composition, raw materials, skin chemistry, the science of how a scent unfolds over time. I came from a family of writers. I had always believed that the most important stories are the ones that live beyond words. I just never expected to find that in a perfume bottle.

I had spent years building things with my hands and my eye. Training in Interior Design at RMIT and working in Accessory Design for well over a decade. I understood how objects hold meaning. How something you carry or wear can become an extension of who you are.

Fragrance was the last frontier of that — the one material that lives on skin, not on a shelf.

I built Notes To Poppy in that space between grief and clarity. I named it for my daughter, Poppy, because everything I build now, I build with intention. With legacy. With the full weight of knowing that the women watching me do this are not only my customers. Some of them are my children.
